So You Want To Learn To Knit

So have you caught the knitting bug? Do you know a basic stitch but are looking to add to this? With some helpful times and practice, you will be great at knitting and can learn how to make some cool things.

There are three basic techniques you need to learn. The foundations of knitting are the knit stitch, the purl stitch, and the casting on.

You can learn the basic stitches from other knitters, online, or in a book. You can truly only become a functional knitter by practicing as much as possible.

Use a medium gauge wool yarn when starting. This may not be the best-looking choice but it is easy to learn with. Cotton has no give so this is not a wise option. Wool has more stretch making it easier to learn.

Your local craft store should have items for beginners and those that are more advanced. They can also answer any questions you may have.

Knitting has been a great hobby. People meet in groups called crops and they stitch and bitch together. They work on projects and talk. Going to these groups is a great place to learn from those with experience. They can show you how to do things and give you some tips. Advanced knitters looking to improve share their talent with others in the group.

You can also take lessons to improve your knitting skills. Local shops may host beginner classes. If you take a few classes you will learn some stitches and how to complete projects. You will need to learn on a swatch that will be able to do two feet in length. It may not be the most fun thing to do but it will help you become comfortable with knitting and the different stitches.

The easiest first project is a scarf. It is simple and you really do not have to worry too much about gauge. It is the best project, to begin with, to practice your skill. If you are beginning in the summer, you can make a decorative scarf using lightweight cotton.

Knitting can be a fun hobby. You will find it relaxing. Playing with the different colors and textures, to make great things and even give them out as gifts. Knitting is not just your grandma's pastime. It is a fun hobby for any age.
