5 Beauty Secrets You Didn’t Know

You've heard the old saying, “Beauty is only skin deep.” Well, it’s not true. Beauty is the outer manifestation of good health, good genetics, and goodwill.

Whatever your genetics, luck, or mindset, you want to look as healthy and beautiful as possible. Not magazine-cover perfect, but as healthy, vibrant, and youthful as possible. This shows in the health of your skin, hair, and nails.

Our health reflects our skin's quality and our hair's luster. The state of our mind and intentions is reflected in our smiles, eyes, and the regard our loved ones have for us. A beautiful smile and sparkling eyes are the results of a good attitude. Good genetics? Well, that’s the result of good luck.

The first step is to start a new beauty regimen by giving your body what it needs to repair and maintain itself. Devising a new beauty routine is determining whether you are getting the right food and enough water to meet your beauty goals. Also, you might want to consider a detoxification routine.

The primary factors affecting the appearance of these are:

1. Nutrition

Beautiful, strong hair and clear, smooth skin are the results of good nutrition. Your skin regenerates constantly, building new cells underneath and sloughing off old cells. Your body rebuilds and repairs cellular tissue daily. It needs adequate protein, fats, vitamins, minerals, enzymes, and micronutrients. Without sufficient protein, your skin will not have healthy collagen structures. Without a good amount of the right kinds of fats, hair, and nail cells are weak and easily broken. Skin becomes dry and dull.

2. Hydration

Dehydration can lead to slack skin and lifeless hair. Adequate hydration is vital to the process. Your body requires enough water to move nutrients into and wastes out of cells. Water is the basis of the interstitial tissues that flow between your muscle and fat cells. They carry oxygen and hormones from one to the other.

3. Detoxification

Detoxification is fundamental. Your skin eliminates approximately 10% of toxins and metabolic wastes. When other organs of elimination are clean and functioning well, it lightens the load on the skin. This allows it to use its precious energy for repair and re-growth. Certain toxins can have definite adverse effects on the hair. Heavy metal poisoning from mercury can cause hair to fall out and break and aggravate gums.

4. Hormonal Profile

Your body produces hormones that communicate with organs and tissues. Estrogen, testosterone, progesterone, and growth hormones affect hair, skin, and nails. Estrogen is essential for keeping your skin youthful and resilient. Too much can cause aggravation of the gums and lead to gingivitis. Testosterone produces your body’s moisturizer, sebum.

Too much can lead to hair loss from your head and the growth of excess dark hairs on the face and belly. A lack of progesterone can lead to the skin condition of cellulite. The hormones leptin, insulin, and glucagon are essential for maintaining a healthy weight. As you can see, hormonal balance has a definite and vital influence on your appearance.

5. Sleep

Are you getting enough sleep to put all these other factors to work for you? Adequate sleep and rest are the most important things you can do to improve healthy skin, hair, and nails. These are the first things to consider when devising a beauty regimen.

Your body needs rest to rebuild, repair and replace cellular tissue. The skin regenerates between the hours of 11 PM and 2 AM. For best results, you should be sleeping during those hours. Your body also uses the time during sleep to balance brain chemistry.  As well as giving you the energy to live actively and mood enhancement to enjoy life.
