Proper Skincare for Radiant Skin

Are you sick of feeling like your skin isn't radiating your inner beauty? Do you want to be that woman who walks into a room and lights it up with glowing skin appearance?

It can be challenging to maintain healthy skin in today’s image-conscious society. Every day our environment inflicts a lot of damage on the skin. Exposure to pollutants, sunlight, ultraviolet rays, etc. Skin is the largest organ and the body’s first layer of protection against the environment.

Despite the many skincare products on the market, good skin is still a distant dream for many. Using products that are not skin-friendly contributes to skin deterioration. But how do you go about it? Here are a few tips to keep your skin healthy and glowing.

A skincare routine is an essential part of taking care of your skin. It is important to choose products that are suitable for your skin type. There are five different types of skin, which are dry, oily, combination, sensitive, and acne-prone.

  • Dry skin often lacks oil and feels tight after washing it. This is because the sebum production in the pores has been reduced or has stopped altogether.

  • Oily skin produces more sebum than necessary and is prone to blackheads and breakouts.

  • Combination skins have a balance between dryness and oiliness, but one side may be more predominant than the other depending on the time of day or season.

  • Sensitive skin may have one or more of the following: redness, itching, burning, or tightness in areas of your face or neck, dry patches or eczema patches.

  • Acne-prone skin has red, swollen, and sometimes painful pumps usually occur on the face, neck, chest, back, or shoulders. It's caused by a number of factors including genetics, diet, and hormones.

1. Cleansing

The first step towards healthy skin is clean skin. Any skincare routine starts with a cleansing process. Because facial skin is most exposed to the dust and grime in the atmosphere. Washing your face after you’ve been out is a must. But do not overdo it. Excessive use of soap and other cleansers can produce excess oil and breakouts or sores. Particularly if you have oily skin.

2. Hydration

Hydration is an essential part of skincare. The skin's moisture barrier keeps it hydrated and healthy by locking in moisture. If the skin's barrier is damaged, it won't be able to hold on to moisture, which can lead to major hydration problems.

Dryness, scaly, dryness, redness, and skin irrationality are a few examples. It's the most important way to maintain healthy, glowing skin. Drinking plenty of water daily is good for your skin as it helps get rid of toxins in the body.

3. Hormonal changes

Acne is a skin condition that occurs when dead skin cells and oil clog the skin pores. Sebaceous glands become overactive and secrete excess oil. This then blocks the pores in the skin. Which, in turn, leads to inflammation and redness of the skin causing acne.

The main cause of acne is hormonal changes. Acne is the most common skincare problem affecting people, especially teenagers. Usually, acne fades in the late 20s but some people, mostly women, face this problem even in their forties and fifties. The majority of those affected by acne only experience it in a mild form. Severe acne could lead to emotional and physical scarring.

There are many ways to clear skin acne caused by hormonal changes. These include oral contraceptives and topical solutions like retinol, alpha-hydroxy acids. As well as, natural solutions such as tea tree oil, and green tea. Diet can also play a part to reduce acne. Avoid sugar, dairy products, red meats, refined carbs, such as white bread and pasta.

4. Hygiene

Poor hygiene or increased stress levels may aggravate the skin. There are many ways to keep your skin healthy and clean, for example, cleaning your face twice a day with a gentle cleanser, using sunscreen during the day, and exfoliating once a week. These are just some of the many ways that you can maintain skincare hygiene.

For proper skincare, it is important that you know your skin type. There are three skin types: dry, oily, and normal skin. You could also have a combination of two or more types. Choose skincare products, based on your skin type.
